Agricultural Property for Lease
South of SMF/ NW and NE of Garden Hwy
- Approximately 460 acres agricultural property, located at the southern portion
of the Sacramento International Airport Buffer Lands, in the vicinity of the
northwest corner of Power Line Road and Garden Highway, in Sacramento, CA.
This 460-acre area comprises a Swainson's hawk foraging area that has been
created to meet mitigation requirements for Sacramento International Airport.
- Term: 5 years (with option to extend for an additional successive 5 years)
- Proposals will be accepted no later than 4:00 P.M. PST, Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at County of Sacramento Real Estate Division, Attn: Ellen Desvarro, 10545 Armstrong Ave., Suite 202D, Mather, CA 95655. Proposals received after the deadline stated above will not be considered.
- Lease will be executed by the County Director of Airports in accordance with Section 2.62.020 of the Sacramento County Code.
- Lease is subject to Airport regulations and assurances required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and compliance with environmental and wildlife regulations.
- Farming activities may be restricted when north winds dictate an aircraft approach pattern from the south.
- Successful applicant will be restricted to agricultural use or crops that are not potential hazards to aircraft operations and to wildlife. Only crops suitable for Swainson’s Hawk foraging shall be cultivated. Alfalfa is the preferred crop. Cereal grain crops will not be allowed. Other crops are permissible; a list is available upon request. An annual Crop Plan will be required.
- Successful applicant will be encouraged to practice water conservation measures in order to avoid long periods of standing water which may be attractive to some wildlife hazardous to aircraft overflights.
- Only cash rent will be considered. At the beginning of the second lease year and every lease year thereafter, the then current rent will be subject to a cost of living adjustment.
- SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION (as of April 18, 2008) In any given year, a 60-acre portion of the area will be required to be left idle or fallow.
